Installation tuning chip for Pinion eBike engines

The tuning module removes the 25 km/h limit of your pedelec.

All other properties and functions of your bike are retained as usual.

Here is a schematic representation to connect the tuning:

ebike tuning chip schema

1. Please turn off the bike and remove the battery from the frame. Then remove the shown cover on the motor by unscrewing the 3 screws with a Torx T20.

2. Disconnect the 3-pin connector to the speed sensor (orange) and the 5-pin connector to the display (green).

3. Connect the removed connectors to the corresponding counterparts on the tuning. Then connect the other two connectors on the module to the free slots on the motor.

4. Stow the tuning and cables in the frame and replace the cover.

Please note: Starting with motor software version 1.2.0, a gear ratio change is also necessary!

With motor software version 1.1.3, with which the first bicycles were delivered, this was actually not necessary. However, since the motor software update to version 1.2.0, this has changed.

In the mid-engine pedelecs previously available on the market, the motor was "indifferent" to the traveled speed. A higher speed could simply be achieved by changing to a higher gear. Since the gearshift was located outside the motor, this was easy to do. For the motor, this was like riding up a small hill.

This changes with Pinion MGU motors. Since the transmission is integrated into the motor and electronically monitored, these can only be tricked into achieving higher speeds if a different gear ratio is installed on the bike outside the motor. For this reason, converting the pulleys is absolutely necessary.

Converting the pulley(s) will then determine the new maximum possible speed. You can either count the number of teeth or, better yet, read the number directly from the pulleys on your bike. Due to the design of many pedelecs, a rear pulley with fewer than 22 teeth and a front chainring with more than 39 teeth are not possible without further modification. Please check this on your bike before converting!

You can find out which motor firmware version your e-bike has by going to "Settings" - "About" - "Motor" in the menu.

Important note on visiting a workshop or software updates on your pedelec:

Before you take your pedelec to customer service or have the system software updated, please ask whether the tuning will still work with the more up-to-date software.

For a software update on your system, the module must first be removed. Alternatively, there is the service mode on the tuning chip, which you must activate before an update.

To do this, please adjust the support level 3x down and then 3x up.

Start at the highest level. If successful, the gear display changes 3x from 0 to the software version of the tuning (e.g. 30). The service mode is now active and maintenance and software updates can be carried out on your Pedelec. The service mode is now active and maintenance and software updates can be carried out on your system.

The service mode remains active after the system is switched off. When you switch on your pedelec, no animation of the capacity display of the battery is shown as long as this mode is active. To deactivate the service mode, please use the same key combination as for activating or the combination for switching the tuning on and off. Please note that in service mode the motor support ends at 25 km/h.

Hints:

- If you are not sure whether the service mode is active, please remove the tuning before the update!

- Please only activate the service mode for updates on your pedelec!

- A switched off tuning cannot be switched on via the combination for the service mode!

- After activating the service mode, we recommend switching off the bike without moving it again!
